Is Tate Britain free?
Yes. Entry to the main collection displays is free for everyone, with no booking needed. Major temporary exhibitions and some tours are ticketed.
What are Tate Britain's opening times?
Tate Britain is open daily from 10:00 to 18:00, with last entry shortly before closing. Times can change on public holidays, so check tate.org.uk before you travel.
Where is Tate Britain?
Tate Britain is on Millbank, London SW1P 4RG, beside the River Thames. The nearest Underground station is Pimlico on the Victoria line, about an eight-minute walk.
How long do you need at Tate Britain?
Most visitors spend two to three hours. A focused visit to the Turner rooms and a few highlights takes about an hour, while art lovers can happily spend half a day.
What is the difference between Tate Britain and Tate Modern?
Tate Britain shows British art from 1500 to the present day in a neoclassical building at Millbank. Tate Modern shows international modern and contemporary art in a converted power station at Bankside. The Tate Boat links the two in about 15 minutes.
Can you take photos inside Tate Britain?
Photography for personal use is generally allowed in the free collection displays, without flash or tripods. Temporary exhibitions may not allow photography, so check the signs.
Is Tate Britain suitable for children?
Yes. Entry is free for families, buggies are welcome, and there are baby-change facilities. Children usually enjoy the big dramatic paintings and the wide, quiet galleries.
Is Tate Britain wheelchair accessible?

Do I need to book Tate Britain tickets in advance?
Not for the free collection. Book ahead for major exhibitions and guided tours, especially at weekends and in school holidays.
Is there a café at Tate Britain?
Yes. There is a café for coffee and light meals and a restaurant for a longer lunch. Outside food is not allowed in the galleries.
